Farmers are currently awaiting the 24th installment, although installments are released every four months.

It is estimated that the 24th installment of the PM Kisan Yojana may be released in October. Only eligible farmers receive the full installment each year. If farmers who haven’t received the benefit complete mandatory requirements like e-KYC, land verification, and Aadhaar linking, they will also begin receiving the benefits.

Maharashtra government’s big gift to farmers

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made this major announcement during an event in Mumbai. He said that to provide relief to farmers, his government will waive all outstanding electricity bills of those using agricultural pumps up to 7.5 horsepower (HP).

This major decision will provide relief from the burden of electricity bills, and Chief Minister Fadnavis said, “Since our government came to power, we have provided free electricity to farmers using agricultural pumps up to 7 HP. For this, we allocate a budget of ₹25,000 crore every year to compensate power companies. However, old outstanding bills remain in the name of every farmer, and they are asked to pay these dues upon obtaining a new electricity connection. To ensure that farmers do not face such outstanding bills, I am announcing a complete waiver of electricity bills.”

Approximately ₹48,000 crore related to agricultural pumps waived

With this decision, the state government will waive approximately ₹48,000 crore of old outstanding electricity bills related to agricultural pumps up to 7.5 HP. This is a significant amount and can provide relief and benefit to farmers. The government has clarified that waiving electricity bills does not mean that the power distribution company will incur losses, but rather that the state government will provide a budget of ₹25,000 crore to the power distribution company every year.

According to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) officials, this major move will reduce the burden of old electricity bills on farmers and help the company recover outstanding dues that have been pending for years.

Loans waived before the electricity bill waiver

Earlier in June 2026, the Maharashtra government announced the waiver of agricultural loans worth ₹36,500 crore, with approximately 5.6 million farmers expected to benefit under the ‘Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana 2026’.

Chief Minister Fadnavis also stated that the government is taking further steps to increase revenue through the industry and service sectors, and as revenue increases, more funds will be made available for the agricultural sector.

Old Free Electricity Scheme

The Maharashtra government already provides free electricity to farmers with agricultural pumps up to 7.5 HP. In the June 2024 budget, the government also announced that it would cover farmers’ existing electricity bills under the Chief Minister Baliraja Free Electricity Scheme.

This electricity bill waiver is a step to promote solar energy in the state. Under the Chief Minister Solar Krishi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0, decentralized solar power projects with a capacity of over 15,284 MW are underway, making it one of the largest such initiatives in the world. This scheme involves private investment of approximately ₹65,000 crore and is expected to generate approximately 70,000 jobs in rural areas.

In this, for now, electricity is being provided to 76 percent of the farmers of the state during the day and the government’s target is to provide free electricity to 100 percent of the farmers for 8 to 12 hours a day.
